Read with Abandon?

Today’s suggestion is from Cereal Box Reader

I would enjoy reading a meme about people’s abandoned books. The books that you start but don’t finish say as much about you as the ones you actually read, sometimes because of the books themselves or because of the circumstances that prevent you from finishing. So . . . what books have you abandoned and why?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

  3. Yeah! I’ve missed the last couple of weeks, but I’m up today. Great question!! Come visit me at http://stephaniesbooks.blogspot.com/

  4. I just recently abandoned Falling Man by Don DeLillo. The description interested me, the juxtaposition of the actual person and the performance artist that was copying him interested me, but DeLillo’s writing was dryer than the Sahara and confusing to boot. Which she is speaking now? Is this him, or is it the other guy that he helped? etc.

  5. I’m up. And I’m off to see how other people decide about these things….

    Great question!

  19. there’s only been one in recent history. it was non-fiction. it’s a book about diets based on your blood-type. the more i read, the angrier i got. it kept telling me that all my favorite foods were bad for me, and the reason why iw as having headaches, and why i have arthritis (it’s inherited, idiot). sorry, i live through my food. i’m a foodie. i refuse to use certain mouthwashes because i CAN’T STAND THE TASTE. i’ve been hunting for a decently tasting toothpaste for years, because i hate mint. (and the lemon one was even more disgusting, oy). sorry, couldn’t do it. almost threw the book across the room myself, except it was a library b ook. it went back unfinished, needless to say.

as for jonathan strange and mr norrell? i listened to it on booktape. made it much easier to get through, as i listened in the car. wanna know how it ends, lol?
