Do you give books as gifts?

To everyone? Or only to select people?

How do you feel about receiving books as gifts?

  1. I feel like I’m in Groundhog Day.

I know it was an error to have two questions up on the same day, but I answered them both anyway. 😀

  3. I won’t post this as a seperate post on my blog, becuase my answer is really small. No body i know will be ecstatic to recieve books as gifts, except me. And as no one i know is a reader, giving books as gifts don’t cross their minds. Except may be my boyfriend. He doesn’y read much but he knows i love reading. so he occasionally gifts me a book.

I do like to give books as gifts but only to people that I know will appreciate them. I won’t give a book to someone that does not like to read, because I don’t want them to feel as if I am forcing them to read. I enjoy receiving books as gifts, especially if the person giving it to me has put some thought into it…like giving me a book by one of my favorite authors.

I’ll answer the other one tomorrow when I’m not falling asleep at the keyboard. 🙂

  39. Sorry it’s so late…..but I’m up. Come visit me at http://stephaniesbooks.blogspot.com/

  40. For a minute there, I thought it was still Thursday. “Hey! I finally got this done on a Thursday!” Right.

Anyway, here’s my late submission. I only did Generosity, as I “treat” myself to books ALL THE TIME, and having to pick only one was giving me a headache. Actually, the headache’s probably from looking outside at all the snow, and realizing that there’s no way in heck I’m making it to my massage appointment at 12:30, but whatever…

    So, here‘s the post. =)

  41. Booking Through Thursday on Friday – thanks for the bonus question this week. What a generous treat :-)!

  42. Better late then never. Here’s mine:

  44. Here’s what Roy Blount has to say on the subject, repeated at CE Desk: http://thecopyeditorsdesk.com/2008/12/11/give-books-for-christmas/

In a later e-mail to Author’s Guild members, he reported that one member bought 50 books from an independent bookseller to use as Christmas presents. Go for it!

  45. A very brief response, but a response nonetheless 😉

    Short stories

  46. I gave everyone in my family books this year. Working at a bookstore has its advantages.

Books I am giving: The Lace Reader, Musicophilia, Dewey, The Greatest Game, Best American Sports Writing, and Amelia Bedelia.
