I have one question for all of you, about the format of BTT.

This meme is set up for everyone to post their answers on their own blogs and then come back here to comment with a link. This works fine, and it gets traffic to everyone’s site, and it certainly has been working all this time, which is all good.

However, our numbers each week are climbing–which I think is fabulous (thanks, everyone!)–and it was one thing to click back and forth between each week’s post and the responses when there were 10 or 20 each week, but lately we’re closer to 60. That’s a lot of clicking!

So, here’s the question:

How would you feel about leaving your responses–or at least brief versions of your responses–in the actual comments, so that all the answers would be in one place?

The advantage to this, I think, would be that we could have actual discussions in the comments. And yes, it would save all that back-and-forthing.

The disadvantage would be that there would be fewer visits to your individual site, and, well, comments are usually only so long . . . Although we could certainly put brief answers and then, “For more, visit my blog” kinds of notes to encourage people to come visit when you post a photo or want to delve into lengthy answers . . .

Ultimately–what do you THINK?

I’m happy either way, but I want all of you to be happy, too….

(And, um, for this question, obviously, the answers SHOULD be in the comments, because this one really should be a discussion.) (grin)

Edited to Add: Thanks for the input everyone. We’ll be leaving things exactly as they are! I just want everyone to be happy (grin).

  1. One of the reasons I participate in memes is to get more traffic to my site — I’d probably stop if all the answers were in the comments… although I really do enjoy this particular one, so maybe not!

I also discover some nifty new blogs to read by clicking over, and have made some wonderful virtual friends that way. I think I’d miss it.

My vote would be to keep things the way they are.

    Just my .02 FWIW.

  2. I’d also leave things the way they are. I don’t click on every link every week, but I have discovered some neat blogs that I might not have otherwise and I usually page through to see what has been posted since the last time I followed a link from here.

  3. Either way works fine for me, but I would feel kinda sad if I couldn’t check out other folks answers on their blogs.

  4. This is kind of what I thought, too, but I thought I’d ask in case anyone else felt otherwise. (And, hey, the BTT site gets a lot more traffic this way, too, and who am I to complain about THAT?)

    So, carry on!

  5. I agree with everyone else. I like visiting other people’s blogs – it’s fun!

  6. Another way to do this would be with Mr Linky, which is an easy way for each of us to add our links to the page without generating scads of comments.

Here’s an example from Thoughts of Joy’s NonFiction 5 challenge:

  7. I agree, I enjoy visiting others blogs and this is incentive to so do!
Please can we leave it as it is?
    many thanks!

  8. I’m pretty much ok with any arrangement. But I like the way things work now, because I do love visiting the other blogs. I get to know more about interesting people around the world and in a way, I get to travel everyday ^_^

  9. I like it as it is now – it has become my Thursday (or sometimes Friday post on my blog and I wouldn’t be bothered paffling about pasting etc to do it twice. I don’t get around everyone’s sites, but I do get to a selection every week and always find some new sites I really enjoy.

    Have a good weekend!

  10. Although I can’t seem to get my act together to answer on thursdays…..why not set up a Mr. Linky and have us just enter our site…that way when we come over we can see all the sites listed and click away to our hearts content….btw…as soon as I leave this comment I am going to write my btt post πŸ˜‰

  11. I don’t do this to attract traffic to my site – I blog for myself mainly – and the wonderful sideline is that I have met lots of new friends at the same time. I do have fun with this meme – it is the only one I do. I would still continue to put it on my blog as well as do an answer here – I may be late (my answer to last weeks has only just gone up – please go read why this non- peeker may actually peek at th end of next month’s Harry Potter release πŸ™‚

My vote – is for what ever is easiest for you – I will probably answer here in short and link people back to my blog if they are interested enough πŸ™‚

  12. I, too, do memes in order to have something to post on MY blog. If I wasn’t going to post it on my blog, I wouldn’t do it. I like the Mr. Linky idea.

  13. I think it’d be better to leave things alone…some people use Mr. Linky and they get hundreds of responses to their memes. I have to admit I can’t visit all 200+ of the Thursday Thirteeners but I do visit a lot more than I normally would and have definitely found good reads. It’s the same with this one, found lots of great reading blogs!

  14. Sheesh…I’m an idiot! I answered a couple of the questions on my blog today, not realizing it was part of a larger meme. Sorry about that!

  15. I like this meme the way it is. I’ve found some really great blogs through this meme. It’s likely I wouldn’t have visited the blogs if the responses had been posted here. Of course, I’d still participate if you did make the change.

  16. I’ve just found this site, though a couple of the blogs I read do the meme. I am thinking of “joining up,” so whatever is decided is what I’ll gladly do!

  17. Mr Linky. A lot of the high traffic memes, like Wordless Wednesday and Thursday Thirteen use that. I think it’s a great idea and easy to use.

  18. I too discovered some great blogs to read by clicking and visiting them. This is one of the reasons why I participate each week. And also because I have my own meme.

  19. I say, keep thing the way they are. I like visiting other people blogs to see what they’re up to. And finding new friends and visiting old friends.

And discovering things about them when they answers BTT πŸ™‚ And Deb…you are doing great job in this BTT πŸ™‚

  20. I read all of these comments after I’d posted my latest updates with full responses and a link to my LJ.

I guess my take is that for some folks it does make sense to just post a link. In my case, I don’t really care one way or the other, so will post my answers in my comments on BTT as well as a link to my LJ.
