Something I’ve been thinking about lately: “What words/phrases in a blurb make a book irresistible? What words/phrases will make you put the book back down immediately?”

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Short (and a little off-topic) answer because I don’t really read blurbs.

It’s technically Friday in MY timezone, but the sun hasn’t come up yet, so fiscally, it’s still Thursday night.

I just found your meme and I’m impressed so will be joining in Thursdays (or as soon as I can).

I’m getting bored by secret babies and the cowboy’s secret baby or the CEO’s secret baby or the :P rince’s Mistress + their secret baby. This leads me to believe I don’t want to see only captains of industry mentioned – CEO’s, Princes, Kings, Shieks – up against a woman with much less clout.

I do however take positive interest in “desperate” situations and people. (Think “Desperate Housewives”). I like things that depict action and adventure mixed with humor. A title I loved was “Phi Beta Bimbo” and I was intrigued and more than half sold before reading the blurb as it made me laugh. I also like smart sounding titles that have double innuendos or a play on words.

Next week I’ll post my answer actually on my blog. :) I have this week’s posts already up and scheduled.
